Milkweed is critical to Monarch survival but it’s disappearing across their migration paths. They need the leaves to lay eggs which then feed the caterpillars but urban sprawl and increased herbicide use has reduced Milkweed patches and the Monarch population is dwindling.

By planting Common Milkweed in your garden, you can be part of the solution!

This hardy plant is one of the easiest and fastest to establish of the Milkweed varieties and even a few plants in small urban pockets will give the Monarchs a place to raise their babies. The plant grows tall and strong, puts out pretty purple flowers, and seed-filled, elongated pods which also look great in dried arrangements. And your kids will love it! Caterpillars grow quickly and can easily be raised “by hand” over a couple weeks in a small fish tank.
