The Thai Gong Bao Pepper plant is one mass producing Hot, Hot, Hot pepper plant. The 3” Thai chilis are about six times hotter than Jalapenos, with a Scoville heat rating of 50K to 100K! The plants are incredibly prolific and the strong, bush like shape of the plant aids in supporting the heavy fruit set, as each plant can produce up to 200 fruits! This is an heirloom pepper from Asia most likely first grown around the early 1800s. If you like Thai cooking or any spicy Asian-style cuisine, you'll appreciate 'Gong Bao'. The flavor is outstanding, with that dry but nutty, hot pungency Asian cooking demands. Excellent when used fresh but when the fall frost threatens, bring in the heavily laden branches and hang them upside down to dry for a colorful and abundant supply of pungent flavorful Chiles all year long.

Plant these peppers in a full sun location 12” to 24” inches apart. Peppers require a moist well-draining soil, and mulching of the plants to help retain the soil moisture and prohibit weeds. This pepper also likes fertilizing. Plant will reach a height of 12” to 24” and with the colorful peppers, it is a very attractive plant. The decorative appeal of this pepper also makes it ideal for containers and used in gardens as an attractive accent plant. Expect harvest in about 60 days. As with all HOT peppers, use protective gloves and goggles when handling these peppers, as the oils can burn unprotected skin.
